United completes Guam switch to 737 Max 8s early

Pacific service now operates with 10 newer Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft instead of 737-800s.
United Airlines has completed the replacement of its Guam-based fleet ahead of schedule.

The US carrier will now operate 10 Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft from the Pacific hub instead of older 737-800s. Their replacement was originally planned by the end of the year.

All 10 of the aircraft will be equipped with Starlink satellite wi-fi and new interiors, with installations of the network already completed on two aircraft as of 13 October.

“Starlink is a game changer for our customers, delivering the fast, reliable connectivity they expect, and we’re proud that our Guam-based aircraft are among the first of our MAX 8s to receive it,” says United’s chief customer officer David Kinzelman.

United’s first 737 Max 8 deployed in March 2026 to the South Pacific to begin the fleet replacement, which also includes upgrades to the airport’s check-in lobby.

The Guam narrowbody fleet serves 15 destinations, including its signature “island hopper” service as well as flights to Japan and Hawaii.

United does not say where the replaced 737-800s will go next.
