Swiss electrification specialist H55 has selected the Safran Electrical & Power ENGINeUS motor to power the Bristel B23 Energic, a battery powered version of the Czech-built trainer.
Safran Electrical & Power will support both the prototype and serial production phases of the programme, beginning in 2027.
However, the partners are already looking beyond the initial application, seeing their collaboration as opening the door to further electrification projects.
“Building on this combined expertise, the partnership will accelerate the availability of certified electric propulsion solutions for next-generation two-to-six-seat aircraft,” the French firm states.
It foresees the development of “certified electric propulsion solutions for general aviation”, targeting CS-23-category aircraft.
Safran Electrical & Power in 2025 received European Union Aviation Safety Agency approval for its ENGINeUS 100 electric propulsion unit (EPU), while H55 earlier this year revealed an agreement with the regulator over the certification readiness of its energy storage system.
“ENGINeUS enables the development of both all-electric and hybrid aircraft, making it a key asset for introducing fully certified and integrated solutions to the market,” says Agnes Pronost-Gilles, executive vice-president and general manager, power division, Safran Electrical & Power.
Configured with a tandem cockpit, standard variants of the B23 are powered by a single Rotax piston engine.
