Entry into the all-cargo market forms part of wider strategic plan for more co-operation among its Polish aviation interests including LOT.
LOT Polish Airlines’ shareholder Polish Aviation Group (PGL) has outlined plans for a dedicated cargo operation as part of a wide-ranging long-term strategy which envisages closer co-operation of its aviation assets.
The state-owned Polish group’s new strategy for 2026-2032 includes plans to diversify revenue through the entry into the dedicated all-cargo freight transport segment. While no firm timings or details have been disclosed, it says it plans to operate a fleet of freight aircraft.
PGL says this development, together with the construction of new cargo terminals by another group unit – LS Airport Services – will position Poland as a logistics centre for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
Entry into the all-cargo business forms part of wider strategic overhaul planned by PGL.
The group has interests in six Polish aviation business, including LOT Aircraft Maintenance Services, LS Technics, Polish Aviation Academy and PGL Leasing alongside Star Alliance carrier LOT – in which it holds a 30.7% stake – and LOT Airport Services. The new strategy targets deeper operational, capital and technological co-operation between the businesses.
“The approval of the new strategy is a key moment for the future of Polish civil aviation,” says PGL president Radoslaw Stepien.
“Through precisely targeted investments in training autonomy, modern service infrastructure and a dedicated cargo fleet, we are building a strong and profitable leader in the CEE region.”
