LATAM A320 suffers runway excursion at Cascavel

Twinjet had been arriving from Sao Paulo in wet conditions.
LATAM Airlines states that all passengers and crew are safe after one of its aircraft suffered a runway excursion at Cascaval airport.

The Airbus A320 had been operating the LA3858 from Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos airport on 31 August.

LATAM states that the twinjet “overran the runway” during its landing at about 09:45.

The aircraft touched down on runway 15 but came to a halt off the left side near the threshold of the opposite-direction runway 33.

Meteorological data from Cascavel at the time indicates cumulonimbus cloud, thunderstorms and rain in the vicinity.

“All passengers and crew disembarked safely,” the carrier adds. It has not disclosed the number of occupants.

The airline subsequently cancelled the return flight, LA3859, to Guarulhos, with passengers being accommodated on other services departing Foz do Iguacu to the west.

LATAM has not indicated whether the aircraft involved – provisionally identified as PR-MYO, and part of its Brazilian operation having been delivered originally to TAM in 2011 – sustained any damage.
