Landmark deal was first announced in August 2025.
Korean Air has firmed up orders for new Boeing jets and aircraft engines, in a deal valued at close to $45 billion.
The order comprises 20 Boeing 777-9s, 25 Boeing 787-10s, 50 Boeing 737-10s, and eight Boeing 777-8F freighters, and is worth $36.2 billion, the SkyTeam operator states. It is Korean Air’s largest-ever aircraft order, as well as Boeing’s largest aircraft order from an Asian carrier.
Korean Air also finalised its order for 21 spare engines from GE Aerospace and CFM International. It also signed a 15-year engine maintenance contract with the two engine makers.
The airline first announced its intention to order the aircraft in August 2025, on the sidelines of a meeting between South Korean president Lee Jae Myung and US President Donald Trump at the White House.
“This investment secures a predictable long-term fleet introduction schedule to support capacity growth following the Asiana Airlines integration. The transition to next-generation models will also improve overall fleet fuel efficiency and support the airline’s carbon reduction goals,” states Korean Air.
The airline is in the process of integrating the operations of compatriot Asiana Airlines, and expects to complete the process by the end of this year.
Korean Air operates a sizeable Boeing fleet, including 737s, 747-8s, 777s and 787s. It also holds outstanding orders for 737 Max jets, 777-9s, as well as 787s. Asiana, meanwhile, operates 777 aircraft.
Korean Air adds: “We will leverage this fleet modernisation to strengthen our competitive edge and continue driving economic exchange between Korea and the United States.”
