Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has launched Ellyon – an “all-in-one” special mission capability it says is suitable for integration with “multiple large business jet platforms”.
Announced on 20 July and depicted using a digital rendering of a heavily modified Gulfstream G550 airframe, the Ellyon system “integrates electronic attack [EA] and advanced intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance capabilities”, its developer says.
Installed equipment will include jamming and signals intelligence systems, along with a synthetic aperture radar/ground moving target indication payload and electro-optical/infrared sensors, plus a satellite communications fit.
“Able to simultaneously execute both radar jamming and communications jamming within a single mission, Ellyon allows coordinated operational effects against advanced threats and integrated air defence systems,” IAI says.
The “platform-agnostic” package “detects, collects and classifies intelligence while simultaneously performing electronic countermeasures, disruption and EA operations against a variety of systems”, the company adds.
“Ellyon represents a technological leap forward, combining stand-off operations with the ability to sense, understand and shape the electromagnetic battlespace,” says Dror Bar, chief executive of IAI’s Elta Systems business unit.
IAI previously produced special mission versions of platforms including the G550 and Gulfstream V for use in the airborne early warning and control, airborne reconnaissance and electronic warfare categories.
Meanwhile, IAI’s board has nominated Guy Barlev – who served as general manager of the company’s Systems, Missiles and Space Group for the last six years – to be its new chief executive. Barlev will succeed current chairman Boaz Levy, who stood down from the CEO position in May, with Moshe Levy currently serving in an interim capacity.
The appointment requires approval from the Israeli government.
