Former Malaysia Aviation Group chief Izham Ismail joins PAL board

Izham retired from the airline group in January this year.

The former head of Malaysia Aviation Group Izham Ismail has been appointed to the board of directors at Philippine Airlines.

Izham was one of two independent directors appointed to PAL’s board on 1 June, with the other being Edgar Chua, who was formerly Shell’s country chairman for the Philippines.

PAL says the appointment of two directors “enhances the depth and diversity of expertise on PAL’s board, supporting the company’s long-term growth, transformation and strategic goals”.

Izham had been with MAG for 47 years, starting as a pilot, eventually taking helm of the airline group in 2017.

Izham, who retired on 31 January, is widely credited for overseeing the airline group’s business restructuring through the Covid-19 pandemic, and for the group’s return to profitability in recent years.

PAL notes that Izham’s “deep experience in the aviation industry” will be “invaluable”, as the airline “continues to strengthen its position in the global aviation industry”.
