Boeing records strongest month for orders in 2026, driven by Turkish Airlines and 787 deals

Airframer also delivered more 737 Max aircraft in the first nine months of this year than in any prior three-quarter period.
Boeing in September recorded its strongest month for orders so far this year, after booking deals including a 100-unit commitment for 737 Max narrowbodies from Turkish Airlines and selling 18 787s to undisclosed customers.

Meanwhile, the airframer’s 737 delivery pace remained largely flat compared with recent months, despite the company working to ramp up production of the narrowbody jets.

In all, Boeing landed orders last month for 165 aircraft, including 132 737 Max, it said on 13 October.

The Max orders included the Turkish deal for 100 Max 8s, Lufthansa ‘s agreement for another 20 Max 10s, Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ order for six Max 8s and commitments from an unnamed customer or customer for six more of the narrowbody jets.

Boeing also booked orders last month for 23 787s, including five from Biman and 18 from unnamed customers, while Ethiopian Airlines ordered 10 777 Freighters: two 777Fs and eight units of the in-development 777-8F.

Additionally, the airframer boosted its backlog by another 107 aircraft in September by transferring orders out of its “ASC-606” accounting bucket reserved for deals it suspects will not ultimately close. The manufacturer makes such transfers when changed circumstances make it believe the deals will actually result in sales.

Notably, Boeing recorded no cancellations last month.

Boeing has been eager in recent months to increase both delivery and production rates. It does not disclose monthly production figures but has said it is working to hike 737 output from 42 to 47 jets monthly and to bring 787 production from eight to 10 monthly.

In September, the company delivered 43 737s – including nine to Southwest Airlines – and eight 787s. By comparison, it handed over 42 737s in August and had delivered 52 in May.

Boeing also delivered four 767Fs and two 777Fs, bringing its total September deliveries to 57 aircraft. That figure is six more than in August but down from a monthly high this year of 64 deliveries in June.

Year to date, Boeing has delivered 420 737 Max, more than in any prior three-quarter period, it notes.

The company ended September with 6,371 jets in its backlog, up from 6,156 one month prior.
