Allegiant Air to add first premium seats

Budget carrier follows other low-cost competitors in adding perks.

Allegiant Air will add complimentary soft drink service for all passengers and first-class seating for the first time as low-cost carriers increasingly add perks they’ve historically eschewed.

Refreshments will be served from 1 August, while eight “Allegiant First” seats will enter service on select routes from Punta Gorda airport near Fort Myers, Florida in spring 2027, Allegiant says. It currently operates flights to airports throughout the eastern and Midwest USA from the airport.

The upgraded seats will be arranged in a two-by-two layout, Allegiant says.

The move marks a significant shift for Allegiant, which for years has resisted the perks and differentiation embraced by its competitors.

Frontier Airlines – arguably its closest peer, though with a different regional focus – also plans to add first-class seats later this year. JetBlue Airways, meanwhile, plans to add domestic first class to complement its long-haul “Mint” lie-flat service.

Allegiant merged with rival Sun Country Airlines in May 2026. The two brands will continue operating separately until 2028.

“As we bring together two highly complementary leisure airlines, we see significant opportunity to expand complimentary and premium offerings in a way that strengthens the customer experience and supports the long-term growth of the combined company,” says Allegiant chief commercial officer Drew Wells.
