Biman Bangladesh orders 10 Airbus jets

Order includes six A321neos and four A350s.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has placed an order with Airbus for six A321neos and four A350s.

The aircraft will be used to support its plans to serve North America, Europe and the Middle East, says Airbus.

The UK Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade says in a statement that the deal is “worth hundreds of millions of pounds to the UK economy” and will support “thousands of highly-skilled jobs across the country from Broughton to Bristol”.

Airbus makes wings for its commercial aircraft in the UK, at Broughton in North Wales and Belfast in Northern Ireland.

“This order marks a significant milestone in our partnership with Biman Bangladesh Airlines as it embarks on this important phase of fleet modernisation,” says Benoit de Saint-Exupery, executive vice-president sales at Airbus Commercial Aircraft.

“Together, the A350 and A321neo form the perfect fleet strategy for Biman as it spreads its wings to new international destinations.”

Bangladesh’s government indicated last month that it was in talks with Airbus over the purchase of four A350-900s and six A321neos for Biman Bangladesh.

The all-Boeing operator agreed to purchase 14 more Boeing aircraft – eight 787-10s, two 787-9s and four 737 Max 8s – earlier this year. It recently added five more 787-10s and six more Max 8s.
