The simulator will be operational by end-2027.
Airbus and CAE joint-venture Flight Training Alliance will establish a new full-flight simulator for the Airbus A220 platform in Singapore.
The new CAE7000XR full-flight simulator will be operational in the fourth quarter of 2027, at the Airbus Asia Training Centre in Singapore.
It will be the latest A220 training simulator to be based in the Asia-Pacific region: there are currently simulators in Australia and South Korea, where operators Qantas and Korean Air currently fly the type.
Through this partnership, Flight Training Alliance – a joint venture between CAE and Lufthansa Aviation Training – will deploy the Airbus A220 full-flight-simulator, with Airbus managing operations and training delivery.
The two companies will provide a “complete suite” of A220 flight crew type-rating, along with recurrent training. There will also be dedicated A220 flight instructors and operations technicians based in Singapore.
The deployment is the first time Flight Training Alliance is bringing the A220 simulators to Asia. The company has existing A220 training operations in Frankfurt, Zurich and Rome.
“That expertise will now extend to the Asia-Pacific region to help meet increasing industry demand and support the development of a skilled and qualified pilot workforce,” the company states.
The A220 is the latest platform to join Airbus Asia Training Centre: it has four full-flight simulators bays dedicated to the A350, two for the A320, and one each for the A330 and A380.
Silvia Meloni, general manager of Airbus Asia Training Centre, notes: “The new A220 simulator will provide airline operators across the region with convenient access to world-class training, helping train their pilots closer to home while supporting the safe and efficient entry into service of their A220 fleet.
Meloni adds: “We also anticipate an increase in training demand for the A220 as the aircraft programme continues to gain momentum in this region.”
Asia-Pacific A220 operators include Korean Air, Qantas and Air Niugini. Low-cost operator AirAsia in May also placed an order for up to 150 A220s.
