Nigerian carrier Enugu Air has confirmed that one of its Embraer regional jets has suffered a runway excursion while landing in Benin City.
The E170 (5N-ENR) overran the end of runway 05 while arriving from Lagos on 23 July.
Enugu says none of the passengers and crew members was injured, and that all on board have safely disembarked.
The aircraft “has been secured” and relevant aviation authorities notified, it states: “An assessment of the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the occurrence is currently under way.
“The safety of our passengers, crew, and operations remains our highest priority.”
Nigeria’s safety investigation bureau is cited by local media as saying that the jet was carrying 63 passengers and five crew members.
Images purportedly taken at the scene indicate the aircraft was substantially damaged, coming to rest on rough muddy ground on its fuselage underside, with part of its landing-gear broken away.
Weather conditions at Benin City, in the south of Nigeria, have yet to be clarified.
Enugu Air only secured its air operator’s certificate in March this year, having previously depended on Nigerian carrier XE Jet.
It has been operating a fleet of E-Jets up to the size of the E195.
