Manufacturer confident about sales prospects as newest pair continue flight test campaign
Gulfstream has debuted its in-flight-test G400 in Europe, coupled with a first showing of its G300 full-scale mock-up.
The Savannah-based manufacturer exhibited its newest models at an 8 June customer event at its UK maintenance centre in Farnborough airport, along with the in-service G800, G700 and G500.
Europe is a key market for the two smallest aircraft in Gulfstream’s portfolio as the majority of flights in the region fall within their respective ranges of 4,200nm (7,778km) and 3,600nm.
The G400 on display is one of three flight test examples and the first off the production line. Gulfstream announced the type, along with the 8,200nm-range G800, in 2021. It took to the air for the first time in August 2024 and certification, originally targeted for last year, is pending.
The G400 shares a cross section, cockpit and type rating, as well as a variant of the Pratt & Whitney PW800 engine, with the G500 and G600.
Gulfstream says the aircraft set a new city-pair speed record en route to Farnborough, flying from Washington DC in 6h 12min at an average speed of Mach 0.87 on sustainable aviation fuel.
Gulfstream announced the G300 as a replacement for its super-midsize G280 in September 2025 and it began its flight test campaign in December. As with its predecessor, it will be built by Israel Aerospace Industries in Tel Aviv and be powered by twin Honeywell HTF7250G turbofans. Confusingly, in the early 2000s, Gulfstream produced another G300, a short-lived variant of the GIV that was discontinued after two years.
Changes from the G280 include the introduction of the airframer’s distinctive oval windows and a version of the Harmony flightdeck, manufactured by Honeywell. However, pilots use standard yokes rather than the BAE Systems active-control sidesticks on Gulfstream’s other models.
“Demand in Europe for Gulfstream’s next-generation aircraft continues to accelerate,” says Gulfstream president Mark Burns. “The G300 and G400 deliver unmatched performance, efficiency and cabin innovation, capabilities that are ideally suited to operators in the region.”
